Good Sleep Improves Quality of Life

Getting a Good Night's Sleep

In a modern work culture all-but obsessed with maximizing productivity, people are being pushed to use screens more and more often. As a result, many are experiencing the stress that comes with being connected to a never ending stampede of work updates, texts, and social media posts every single hour of every day. It’s tempting to think that the extent of the problem ends here, but there’s another consequence that we cannot overlook: Our lifestyles are making it harder to get a good night’s sleep.

Many people make this trade-off willingly; less sleep, more time to get things done, right? Not quite. Less sleep doesn’t just make you groggy in the morning. Even slightly reduced sleep can lower your alertness throughout the day. Your ability to recall memories can be reduced. Tired driving increases the likelihood of a crash. Tiredness can stay with you all day, impacting your mood, increasing irritability and negatively impacting relationships. You’re even likely to overlook day to day chores and exercise. All these factors together result in a reduced quality of life due to decreased sleep. The drawbacks of decreased sleep aren’t limited to day-to-day annoyances either. Chronic sleep deprivation is known to lead to depression, obesity, high blood pressure, immune system deficiency, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart failure, heart attack, and stroke. Bad sleep can also cause wrinkles and dark circles, as well as increased stress, which results in less sleep, causing even more stress! The effects of sleep deprivation simply aren’t something to shrug off.

We’ve established why you should be getting a good night’s sleep, but it’s easier said than done, isn’t it? With all our modern technology and limitless distractions, it can seem impossible to improve our sleeping habits. There are, however, some tried-and-true methods with which many may find success:

  • Today’s screen-culture results in many people practicing a more sedentary lifestyle, but getting active regularly is a good way to balance this out and encourage sleepiness at the end of the day.
  • Similarly, it is possible to achieve better sleep by practicing a healthy diet. This applies both in general, and specifically to carbohydrates, when eaten late in the day. While refined carbohydrates such as white bread are metabolized as sugar (perhaps not what you want if sleep is the goal) complex carbs such as whole wheat bread and oatmeal are not, and instead result in the release of the hormone serotonin, which makes us sleepy.
  • Another solution? Putting down the phone before bed. The blue light emitted by screens is known to reduce sleep quality, so it is best to avoid screens for an hour before sleeping.

Skyline Signature 10 to 1 FormulaThese are all excellent options to improve sleep, but not every solution works for everyone, and many may still find themselves struggling with sleep even after exhausting all of these options. On top of that, people with irregular sleep schedules due to work may feel like they never had a chance to begin with. When nothing works, what are we supposed to do?

According to a recent investigation, the answer may be CBD. For those unfamiliar, CBD is a cannabinoid (a compound found in cannabis). Unlike another well known cannabinoid, THC, CBD causes no impairment of the mind or the body. It does, however, impair the release of the stress hormone, cortisol. The investigation, carried out by researchers at the University of Calgary, found that high doses of CBD made people sleep longer. Though cortisol is usually at its highest in the morning, people with insomnia often experience the most cortisol at night, which, when left unchecked, keeps them awake. After taking CBD, though, cortisol is inhibited, resulting in a better night’s sleep.

Skyline Twilight cbd sleep formulaThese findings are enough to make products like Skyline’s popular 10:1 organic CBD formula, and Twilight with both CBD and CBN, stand out as a promising sleep aids, and a compelling choice for those who are otherwise concerned about addictive prescription medications. The positive effects of CBD don’t end at improved sleep either. Researchers have found that CBD may be helpful with a wide variety of other health and wellness issues. There is still more research to be done in fully determining the extent of its benefits, but in the meantime, CBD represents an affordable, natural option to those who just can’t seem to find a way to improve their sleep.

Now, how do you find the best CBD to get started?
